There are 2 convenient ways to obtain an International Driving Permit:
Apply in Store Option: Visit your local AAA Store.
Appointments are not necessary for in-store processing and you will obtain your permit same day.
If you choose to apply in store, please do not pay online. Your AAA Store will not be able to access your online transaction.

Apply by Mail Option: Place your order online and complete the application process below.
Instructions to mail in your application and documentation will be e-mailed to you within 48 business hours, but you may follow the instructions below prior to receiving this instructional e-mail.
Apply by Mail Processing and Delivery Options:
Standard Processing and Delivery: Arrives 5-7 business days after receipt of your mailed application, photos, and driver's license copy. This service includes a $20 permit fee and $6.95 processing & delivery fee to the United States. Applicable sales tax will be added upon checkout.
Expedited Processing and Delivery: Arrives 1-2 business days after receipt of your mailed application, photos, and driver's license copy. This service includes a $20 permit fee and $29.95 processing & delivery fee to the United States. Applicable sales tax will be added upon checkout.

Important! For Apply by Mail, first place your order through the Online Store. Then, please submit by mail the following materials as soon as possible to process your application:

• Your completed and printed IDP application form. Write your order number from your order confirmation on your application
• Two original passport pictures, 2" x 2", each signed on the back
• A photocopy of both sides of your driver's license
• Do not send payment by mail - please complete checkout with a credit card payment to obtain an order number
• IDPs are delivered via UPS - UPS cannot deliver to a P.O. Box or Military address

It was fairly easy to prepare and pay for obtaining the IDP via mail, paying close attention that it is sent to the address on the application. I emailed several times to check on the status of our order (I do suggest sending with a tracker) and that proved difficult, however replies were quick and efficient. Ultimately, our IDPs arrived in our mailbox without difficultly, approximately 3 weeks later.

I had a disappointing experience with this process. I thought I could apply by mail in order to save time and a two-hour round trip to my local AAA office that handled IDP applications. I was wrong on both counts. Do not rely on this process to properly handle your IDP application. Instead, invest the time to go to your local AAA center where they can be sure everything is set up for you. I applied by mail and paid the fees. When one pays the fees, one gets an order confirmation but no follow-on instructions, either on-screen in an order confirmation page, or in a follow-up email. I did not know what address to send my forms to. Finally after much internet research I found an address on the AAA page for a center in Florida. I mailed my application and receipt to Florida. Two weeks later I received back in the mail my original application materials with a note from AAA Auto Club South stating that they do not accept payments over the internet and contact my local AAA club. I looked them up and drove an hour away with my original paperwork and my receipt in hand. They told me they could not honor the money I had paid online and I would have to pay anew and get my money back for this Apply By Mail Transaction. I paid a second time at my local club office and received our International Driver Permits. I later got my money back for this Apply By Mail IDP application transaction, which is why I give this review two stars instead of one. When I spoke by email with a representative of my local club, she sent me an email that I should have gotten but never did containing the follow-on instructions that I was looking for all along. In the end, I got what I needed, but this IDP Apply By Mail process is confusing and comes without proper procedures or documentation on what to do next once you buy. I recommend you not use this process and instead invest the time to visit your local club where you can get friendly, in-person service.
